How to Put Your Restaurant Menu Online for Free
Before most customers visit a restaurant, they look it up on their phone. If they cannot find your menu and prices in a few seconds, many will simply choose somewhere else. The good news is that putting your menu online costs nothing, and you can do it in an afternoon. This guide shows four free ways, then how to make your menu easy for customers to open.
Step 1: Get your menu ready
Whichever method you choose, a good menu file makes everything easier.
- Use clear, upright photos or a PDF. Photograph the menu in good light, straight on, with no shadows. A sideways or blurry picture frustrates customers.
- Show prices. Customers decide faster when they can see what things cost. If prices change often, keep a note of when you last updated it.
- Keep the file small. A huge file loads slowly on mobile data. If a PDF is very large, compress it, or save pages as images.
- Check the spelling of every dish name before you share it.
Option 1: Share it with a Google Drive link
This is the quickest method, and it works with a PDF or an image.
- Upload your menu file to Google Drive.
- Right-click the file and choose Share.
- Under General access, change "Restricted" to Anyone with the link, and set the role to Viewer.
- Copy the link. That link is your online menu.
Common mistake: leaving the access on "Restricted." Customers will then see a "request access" page instead of your menu. Always test the link on a phone that is not signed in to your Google account. If you later upload a new version, replace the file's content instead of creating a new file, so the same link keeps working.
Option 2: Make a free one-page website
A simple web page with your menu typed out as text has one big advantage: Google can read it. A photo or PDF of a menu is harder for search engines to understand, while typed dish names and prices can help people find you when they search for something like "jollof rice near me."
A basic page needs your business name, your menu in text, your opening hours, your address and a way to contact you. Free hosting services let you publish a simple page without paying, and you can add your own web address later if you want one. If you need help building it, or want a more polished look, a web designer can set it up for you quickly.
Option 3: Use your social media page
If your customers already follow you on Instagram or Facebook, put the menu where they already look.
- On Instagram, save your menu pictures as a Story Highlight called "Menu," so it stays on your profile permanently.
- On Facebook, many business pages let you add a menu or pin a post with your menu to the top.
- Put your menu link in your bio, so it is one tap away.
Social media is easy but not permanent. Posts get buried, and people without an account may not be able to see everything. Treat it as an extra place for the menu, not your only one.
Option 4: Add it to your Google Business Profile
When people search for your restaurant on Google or Maps, your Business Profile is often the first thing they see. Many restaurant profiles let you add a menu link or list your dishes directly. Open your profile, look for the menu or "edit profile" options, and add the link from Option 1 or your web page. Options vary by country and business type, so check what your own profile offers.

Make my QR codeMake it easy for customers to open
- Add a QR code to your tables, counter and front window, so customers can scan and read straight away.
- Add a WhatsApp link so customers can ask a question or order. Our WhatsApp Link Generator makes a chat link with a message already typed, such as "Hi, I'd like to order from your menu."
- Use one main link. Put the same menu link everywhere (bio, profile, QR code) so you only update it in one place.
Mistakes to avoid
- Letting your online menu go out of date. Wrong prices cause arguments and bad reviews.
- Using a link that needs a login or a download to view.
- Sending customers a file that is too big to open on slow data.
- Never testing the link. Open it on a different phone before you tell anyone about it.
Quick checklist
- Menu is clear, with prices and correct spelling
- Link opens on a phone that is not signed in
- The same link is in your bio, profile and QR code
- A WhatsApp number or link is easy to find
- You know when you will next check your prices
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Google Drive, social media pages and Google Business Profile are all free to use. You would only pay if you later choose to buy your own web address or hire help.
Do my customers need to install an app?
No. A menu link opens in the phone's normal browser, and a QR code opens when they point their camera at it.
How often should I update my online menu?
Whenever your prices or dishes change, and check it at least once a month so nothing is out of date.
Should I use a PDF or a web page?
A PDF is the fastest way to start. A web page with typed text is better in the long run, because it loads faster on phones and is easier for people to find through search.
