What is a WhatsApp link?

A WhatsApp link (also called a click-to-chat link) opens a WhatsApp chat with your number when someone taps it. You can even add a message that is already typed, so the customer only has to press send. It works on phones and on WhatsApp Web, and the person does not need to save your number first.

How to make a good message

Keep the pre-filled message short and specific to where the link appears. A link on a restaurant menu could say "Hi, I'd like to order from your menu." A link on a price page could say "Hi, I'd like a quote for a haircut." A specific message tells you where the customer came from and saves you from asking the same questions every time.

Common mistakes

  1. Leaving in the first zero. A local number like 0801 234 5678 must become 801 234 5678 after the country code. This tool removes it for you.
  2. Using a plus sign or spaces. A WhatsApp link needs digits only. The tool cleans these up too.
  3. Forgetting to test. Always tap the Test button, and ideally try it from another phone.
