How to make a QR code menu

A QR code menu lets customers scan a square code with their phone camera and see your menu straight away, with no app to install. It saves printing costs, and you can update your menu without reprinting anything, as long as the link stays the same.

  1. Put your menu online. You need a web link to your menu. It can be a page on your website, a shared PDF or image from Google Drive, or a menu page on your social media.
  2. Copy the link and paste it into the tool above. Use a link that starts with https.
  3. Choose your colours. Dark code on a light background scans best.
  4. Download the QR code, or the poster for your tables and counter.
  5. Test it. Scan the code with at least two different phones before you print.

Tips for a QR code that scans every time

  • Keep strong contrast. A dark code on a light background works best. Light codes on dark backgrounds often fail on older phones.
  • Print it big enough. Make it at least 2 cm (about 1 inch) wide. For posters on a wall, go much bigger.
  • Leave a blank border. Don't crop or cover the white space around the code.
  • Use a short link. Shorter links make simpler codes that scan faster.
  • Keep the link alive. The QR code only holds your link. If you delete the page, the code stops working.
  • Add a few words. A line like "Scan to view our menu" tells customers what to do.

Want customers to order too?

Make a WhatsApp ordering link with our WhatsApp Link Generator, then paste that link here. Customers will scan the code and land in a chat with your business, with an order message ready to send.

Frequently asked questions

Is this QR code maker free?

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up and no limit on how many codes you make.

Do the QR codes expire?

No. The code contains your link directly, so it never expires. It only stops working if the page it points to is removed.

Can I change my menu after printing?

Yes, as long as the link stays the same. Update the page or file behind the link, and the same QR code will show the new menu.

Are my link and details stored?

No. Everything is made in your browser on your own device and is not sent to our servers.

Can I use the QR code for something other than a menu?

Yes. You can use any web link, such as your website, social media page, WhatsApp chat or booking page.
